Another Bad Design for the Magic Mouse Battery Solution

Mobee Magick Charger

Why can’t Apple get the mouse right?! First it was a mouse without a right click. than the right click appeared with the newer OS, but still no wheel. Then the wheel came but it got stuck as soon as you had a bit of finger grease come into the device (which is natural, since we are humans and we do have grease on our hands no matter what). Then came the wheel-less sensor. Great idea, but it suck the batteries dry especially if you are working with it for eight hours a day- 5 to 6 days a week. Then Apple introduced the rechargeable batteries, generously packing 6 in each pack (thanks Apple but this does not solve the problem). Now there is a dock that charges the mouse! WTF?! Why not just redesign the freaking mouse like all of the other technology Apple redesigns (so frequently)? Why not have a mouse that charges through the back of the device by the same wire that is used for the iPad or any iPod/iPhone device? Why wasn’t the lithium ion battery implemented right away? This is ridiculous, I expect way better design from a company that takes this much money for a freaking mouse!! I will not buy this for my Magic Mouse as this will only add clutter to my desk. I love Apple but they really “Sh*t the bed” in the mouse department!

New Clients, New Projects

Recently I have finished the Clearcut Recording web site (www.clearcutrecording.com), a recording studio located in Garfield, New Jersey.  In creating this site I have utilized Adobe ActionScript 2.0 to create the desired web site for the client. I have also taken all of the photographs for this site as well. Clearcut Recording is a comprehensive recording studio which offers their clients a wide array of recording services, from sound effects, commentary, audio book, commercial, voiceovers to individual and band recording artists. I have worked close with the owner of Clearcut Recording to create the desired look and feel geared for his clients.   In addition, I have been working on a verity of other projects such as Jay Street Records (www.jaystrecords.com), an independent record label located in Haldon, New Jersey. Both of these sites are complete and up on the web. An another project in the works, is a portfolio site for Nicole Helen Brunner, an New York / New Jersey artist. Nicole’s mediums range from found object to oil and charcoal with accent in gold leaf. Her art is frequently featured in galleries in Newark and Hoboken, New Jersey and have been on display in many galleries of New York City.  I have completed her business cards which are being circulated, and now I’m working with her on her web site. I will be frequently adding and updating my site with newer projects, as tehy come, so please, do check back soon at:

ADC Young Guns 8

Check out the making of the Young Guns 8 Award.

Playground/Scam Ads

I recently designed an ad for The Imaging Center of Oradell advertising the a mammography service for the month of October (2010). The premiss of the ad was to motivate women, particularly younger mothers, to have their breasts examined for possible signs of cancer. The  ad was turned down by my managers, including my boss (the president of the company). Not because the add was bad or offensive, but because it was too shocking-  as the ad concept got a lot of uneasy/troubled emotions about it. It was presented to as many as twenty people within the company and each individual had found it rather bothersome, yet it was memorable and liked by almost everyone except my higher-ups.  The ad did not run and a different ad was released. After a few months, I finished my portfolio site and decided to upload the ad that did not get approved. Here is the link to the ad that was not approved:

Approved ad

The question is here… is the non-approved ad better? And as it is published on my site, does it qualify as a playground ad?

Here is a bit I saw on the Adland blog about Scam ads and the Playground, and what  Mr. Paul Lavoie had to say on this subject- as it is an interesting and bold choice that designers are taking to express their creative ideas over what the brand-voice aught to be. In a customer driven business designers and agencies are often forced to design what the client wants, and only what the client wants. Without a hit of personal flair or creativity added to the mix. How does this stand in the design business industry? And can this be compared to a modern Avant Garde, harking on the similar ideals of the Futurist movement?

I feel like there is something unique, exciting and fresh about the Playground ad environment- something revolutionary and profound, with a touch of mischievous, as it is miss representing the intended brand voice.

Leica – Oskar Barnack Award competition

I have entered the Leica – Oskar Barnack Award competition, wish me luck!

One of my earliest memories is spending time with my father in his dark room watching him develop his photographs. Seeing an image appear from a mere piece of paper was magical to me.  For a child, it is something that is close to unexplainable and the feeling of magic has always stayed with me throughout the years. And now that I am a photographer, I still feel that same magic when I see photographs appear on my screen. though they don’t have that slow fading-in effect as they did when developed on paper in developer, however, the magic and excitement is still there as they enter my computer and appear on my screen- a sort of digital developing process.
